Okay...it's out in the country you could say (at least that's the definition a city kid applies), but they only thing you'll remember is how to get there. It's on Hwy 41 in Pearl River, a few miles off the intersection of U.S. 11, on the right hand side of the road in a tiny strip mall, across the street from the veterinarian clinic (that's just to give you your bearings). Let me just highlight: authentic home-baked Italian bread, every conceivable Italian cookie there is (like almond and coconut macaroons, seed and fig), some great cinnamon-pecan Prussian cake, spumoni, cassata, and lemon ice, killer cannolis, and yes--sorry Central--the absolute best muffaletta that ever passed my lips! They're closed Sunday and Monday, but open the rest of the week roughly from about 9 onward to around 3 or 4. The bakery is owned by a couple named Stephanie and Ken. Tell them I said hello and (as Arnold Schwartenegger would say)..."I'll be back!"

Re: Mezzo Matto Italian Bakery--Wow!
It is a treat to have 4th generation of Brocato bakers in Pearl River!

I went to Pearl River to visit Mezzo Matto Bakery and got some pinapple ice (TO DIE FOR). Mezzo Matto has biscotti, pastries, real italian pastries at that! The Brocato's are famous for their bakeries, and I'm glad to see they are on the northshore - just wish they were closer to Hammond.
