D'ja know that this year it will be 50 years since we first grabbed hold of our favorite girl or guy, pivoted on the balls of our feet, and swiveled our gyrating hips to a brand new song and it's accompanying dance? Yep, I'm talking about "The Twist."
According to Wikipedia, The Twist was written and originally released in 1959 by Hank Ballard and The Midnighters, but his version was only a moderate 1960 hit. Then later in '60, Chubby Checker covered the song and created the dance that went with it. That was the version that skyrocketed to Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 and has remained "the" real deal all this time. By the way, Chubby also recorded "Twistin' USA," and updated version in 1982 he titled "T-82," and a variation on the original in1988 called "Let's Twist Again Like We Did Last Summer." He also did a rap version with The Fat Boys at the end of '88. He simply called that one "Yo, Twist."
So why am I telling you all this? Because next Tuesday on my kitchen set, Chubby is scheduled to be my guest chef (yep--he likes to cook too!). He wants seafood, so I'm gonna fix him a big pot of "Seafood Courtbouillon." Don't miss this show. Chef Frank

P.S. Also make a note on your appointment calendar that on August 14 at the Sigur Center in Chalmette, I'm going to emcee Chubby's 50th Anniversary of The Twist. Start practicing now so you can take part in the 2010 Twist Competition. I'll keep you up to date on the event as we get closer to it.
